Anime Movie Synopsis: Created with a grandiose vision, a distinctive style, a classic foundation, and amazing technical skill, this is a production like no other. Metropolis is something like what Akira would have been had it been made in the 30s. Metropolis is more like Blade Runner with a 30s facade--a modernist fantasy world blending cyberpunk-standard technologies with abundant Jazz-era flavor and echoes of bustling pre WWII-era cities. The city of Metropolis is, as much as any of the characters, the star of the movie--more than just a representation of all the power and shortcomings of technological advances, it has a richness and sense of dense humanity that is rarely captured on film. Like a mechanized, Technicolor version of an old newsreel, Metropolis is populated by Zeppelins, towering architecture that combines futuristic visions of the period that created the Empire State Building with imposing Soviet-style design, colorful and chaotic streets crowded with all manner of citizen, and of course clunky robots of every shape and size.
